An Old Idea Whose Time Has Come Again
I've been convinced for years that the promotion and advancement of midwifery is an essential ingredient if not the master key to unlocking the door to life - the culture of life in this nation and world.
When birth returns home, where it belongs, abortion rates will plummet. Birth is now so far removed, so foreign to us and the fear of birth so strong.
The bible instructs us to ask for the "old paths" wherein is the good way and to walk therein that we may find rest for our souls.(Jeremiah 6:16) Birth at home with a midwife is an old path whose time has come again.
Is it ironic or evil that state and federal governments sanction the killing of unborn children and at the same time insist on regulating midwives, women who are(or should be) the guardians of life? Not only do state and federal governments insist on regulating this neighborly act of love, but at least in the United States, prosecute the same.
It is past time for women who truly care about mothers and their children to forget about midwifery as a profession, a job or means of making money. It is time for midwives to freely share their knowledge and expertise with anyone interested in learning and to offer their services as often as they can free of charge.
This may be the most direct route to and best chance of restoring the ancient art of midwifery and woman culture that dispels the darkness of abortion, driving it back to the pit from whence it came.
